Business process outsourcing is a new and emerging industry in Trinidad and Tobago
The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector in Trinidad and Tobago has invested in excess of $245 million and has created over three thousand (3,000) jobs in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry of Trade and Industry reports that the BPO sector has steadily grown over the past three years in terms of investment and job creation.
Why is Trinidad and Tobago the preferred outsourcing destination in the Caribbean?
The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago supports solidifying the nation as a premier outsourcing hub because it is essential to the country’s economic expansion. Trinidad and Tobago offer several advantages over other BPO destinations. It features a highly educated workforce with strong English proficiencies. Its time zone compatibility with North America enables seamless collaboration. Furthermore, the country’s robust information and communication technology infrastructure ensures reliable connectivity for BPO operations.
Trinidad and Tobago’s BPO sector prospers in a stable, well-regulated setting. The local government actively promotes its BPO sector through targeted initiatives. The Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Act, fully enacted in July 2024, offers tax breaks and incentives to qualified BPO firms, making the country appealing to foreign investors. These tax benefits include reduced corporation tax, allowances for reinvestment and research and development and zero-rated VAT-able supplies.
